How old can a shih tzu be and still be able to breed?

We have the best dog we have ever had, a female shih tzu about 14 years old. Lately we have regretted not breeding her to get a puppy. Is she too old to breed?

Yes, she is way too old ! ! ! She is long past her prime. Way, way, WAY past her prime.

Thank God, yes. Would you breed your Great-Grandmother?

There's a gazillion Shih-Tzus in shelters. Go adopt one.

She is WAY too old to consider breeding! No responsible breeder would breed a dog that old.. it puts her at a HUGE risk for complications.. because of her age, her body may not be able to properly support puppies, and if she does actually survive pregnancy and whelping, the pups would have major health issues.

A great dog is never a good reason to breed a pet quality animal and YES she is far to old to breed. If she's papered the AKC wouldn't even accept registration of puppies from a dam that old.

You can't possibly be serious… Thats like asking if its OK to breed your 95 year old grandmother. The answer is NO, it's not OK, and YES she is too old.

She's way too old to breed at 14 years old! Don't even think about doing it if you really love her! If you want a puppy, go to your Local Shelter or A Rescue Group. There are so many puppies, waiting for someone to give them a good loving home!

wayyyyy too old, and just b/c she is the best dog you've had does not mean that her offspring will be similar….
