How to get a once neglected Shih Tzu to trust men?
My BFF just rescued a male Shih Tzu from the Humane Society. The employees there told us that he dislikes men. Since we left the Humane Society, he has barked at every single man in passing. My BFF wants to break the habit because she has a younger brother and male friends. Any useful advice would be greatly appreciated.
well, i would suggest that your bff start with having the younger brother feeding the dog treats. food is one surefire way to get a dog to trust you. have him hold a treat in his hand and sit on the floor waiting for the dog to come to him. if that doesn't happen, then have him lay the treat down on the floor and take a few steps back. then have him do it again, but no go back as far…this might take a while. you may even have to delay feeding the dog for a day, so it is hungry and more willing to take the treats. good luck.

Check out the 'Dog Whisperer'. He has great advice on this kind of thing.

Get as many males as you can to come to the house, walk by him, or interact with him all with treats, something really good like hotdog or chicken. Every time he sees a male he gets a yummy thing. Soon he'll associate guys with good things happening.
