I have a blind shih-tzu and a pug puppy - the shih-tzu is terrrified of the new pup. Any suggestions?
Recently I had to put down my blind shih-tzu's long term companion. For the last couple of months he has been lost without his mate, crying, stressing etc so I decided to buy a pug puggy in the hope that he would be himself again. The problem is that everytime the pup goes near him he runs away and is on edge. The puppy is actually pretty placid for a pug and is not biting him or anything along those lines. I realise its probably only a matter of time before the shih-tzu relaxes with his new friend but any suggestions on how to make this an easier process would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like your mistake was trying to replace the dead dog, which had its own place in your shih-tzu's "pack". The shih-tzu is now probably completely confused, especially as he can't see the puppy. I wouldn't even assume this will get better of its own accord, with the special circumstances. Why not consult an animal behaviourist or trainer - ask at your vet's surgery, they will have contacts for both.
P.S. LOLOLOL!!!!! at ****-tzu, that is the best laugh I've had for a long time! Hope it made you laugh a little too, under the harrowing circumstances. Good luck!

get them to know each other, so they can feel more relaxed around each other. I ♥ pugs!

intruduce your shit-tzu slowly. pick up the new puppy and bring it close to the shit-tzu. while you are doing that put your hand on the shit-tzu's back to let her/him know it is okay.
