The bulldog is 150lbs and I am afraid he will hurt my Shih Tzu. They have been living together for 7 months now and still the shih tzu does not like the bigger dog. Does anyone know why or what I can do to make him stop growling and biting.
It could be a number of different things. It could be that your Shih Tzu just does not like big dogs, or, more than likely, the Shih Tzu wants to be the alpha male (dominant). In dog or wolf packs, there is always one alpha male and one alpha female. It can be dangerous to leave two males together, because they may fight for dominance, sometimes to the death. Either way, the situation will probably only get worse if you don't intervene. You may want to contact someone who specializes in dog behavior to have the situation evaluated. Good luck!

They are having a war about territory–the dog that was there first sees the other as trying to take over his "turf". Unless one completely achieves domination over the other, it will probably stay like that.

Could be a dominance issue. Are either of these guys neutered? It can be very hard living with two unaltered dominant dogs. If you can, identify your alpha male, feed him first, play with him first, greet him first your alpha may just want acknowledgement that he is big boss of the other dog and the fighting might stop. This is neither cruel nor unfair these are the rules a healthy dog pack lives by. My two males never fight like this because they know I am big boss of ALL and I know who is next UNDER me.
If this doesn't work you may want to get one or both neutered.

I know this will sound weird, but when the dogs start fighting or growling, take a bucket of water and pour it on the dogs and say NO. Sounds weird but works like a charm!
